Accessibility statement

Built to be used by everyone

Accessibility isn't an extra feature for SEND families — it is the product. We follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA and continuously test and improve.

Built-in accessibility features

Open the accessibility panel (bottom-left of every page) to toggle these on or off:

  • Text-size slider

Scale all text from 87.5% up to 150% without breaking the layout, via the accessibility panel in the bottom-left of every page.

  • High-contrast mode

Heightened contrast for text, borders and focus rings for users with low vision.

  • Reduce motion

Honours the toggle in our panel and your operating-system 'prefers-reduced-motion' setting — animations and parallax effects soften or stop.

  • Dyslexia-friendly font

One-click switch to OpenDyslexic across the whole site.

  • Keyboard navigation

All interactive controls are reachable with Tab/Shift+Tab. Focus rings are clearly visible. Skip links are provided on long pages.

  • Screen reader support

Built with semantic HTML, proper landmarks, ARIA where needed, and accessible names on every icon-only button.

  • Touch-friendly targets

Tap targets meet 44×44px on primary controls so they're comfortable on phones.

  • Underline links

Optional 'underline links' setting forces underlines for users who prefer that affordance over colour.

Standards we follow

  • We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the site.
  • We test with keyboard-only navigation and common screen readers.
  • We use the project design system, so colour contrast is consistent and adjustable.
  • We avoid colour as the only way to convey meaning.

Known limitations

We're transparent about what we're still working on:

  • Some third-party embedded content (where used) may not yet meet WCAG 2.2 AA — we replace or wrap these where we can.
  • PDF resources contributed by third parties may have inconsistent tagging. We're working to improve our own templates first.
