DLA for tics and Tourette's

When tics affect daily life and supervision needs, your child may qualify for DLA.

Tourette''s and chronic tic disorders can qualify for Disability Living Allowance when they significantly affect daily life.

What the form needs to show

  • How tics affect dressing, eating, bathing, schoolwork
  • Extra supervision needs (crossing roads, around hot items, around younger siblings)
  • Sleep disruption from tics
  • Time and help needed for de-escalation, recovery, emotional support
  • Impact of co-occurring /OCD/anxiety
  • Safety issues from complex motor tics

What to include

  • Letters from paediatrics or neurology
  • School support records, , any reasonable adjustments
  • A tic diary
  • Examples comparing your child to peers the same age

Mobility

The mobility component is harder to claim for tics alone but can apply if:

  • Complex motor tics make safe road awareness impossible
  • Severe anxiety means the child cannot travel familiar routes safely

Other support

  • Carer's Allowance (35+ hours/week)
  • Family Fund grants
  • Blue Badge (in some cases)
