Ofsted's new inspection framework: what the SEND changes mean

Ofsted has confirmed its new education inspection framework following the "Big Listen" consultation. Single-word judgements have gone, replaced with a report card across several areas — including a dedicated focus on inclusion and how schools support pupils with SEND.

## What's new - Single overall grades (Outstanding/Good/RI/Inadequate) have been replaced with a report card. - Schools are now rated separately on areas including **Inclusion**, behaviour, attendance and personal development. - Inspectors will look specifically at how well a school identifies and supports children with SEND, including those without an EHCP. ## Why it matters for SEND families - You can now see how a school performs specifically on inclusion before choosing it. - Schools have a clearer incentive to evidence the "graduated approach" for SEN Support. - Parents' views (via Ofsted's Parent View survey) feed directly into inspections — your voice counts. ## Next steps - Check the Inclusion grade on any school report card before a school visit. - If your child's needs aren't being met, ask in writing for a meeting referencing the SEND Code of Practice and the new framework. **Source:** Ofsted — Education Inspection Framework, latest published version.
