Visual Communication Symbols

Printable visual communication symbols designed to help children and young people communicate, understand routines, make choices and feel more prepared throughout the day.

They can be printed, cut out and laminated at home. This section is a work in progress and more symbols will be added over time. If there are any symbols you would like added, please let us know.

If you would like to request new symbols or have any questions, please use the contact button and put: For The Attention Of Sue Almond-Riley.

How to use these symbols

Print the symbol sheets, cut out the cards and laminate them if possible. You can use Velcro dots or strips to attach them to boards, folders, walls, routines or choice boards.

You may find low-cost laminators in high street shops from around £13. Shops such as The Works often sell Velcro, and pound shops often sell laminating pouches.

These resources are not a replacement for speech and language therapy advice, but they can be useful visual supports at home, school or in the community.
