This affects everyone in the family, including parents, siblings and the young person themselves.

  • Sleep changes

  • Withdrawal or clinginess
  • Increased stimming or repetitive behaviours

What can help

  • Reduce the load where you can. Drop something non-essential this week.
  • Use any support that already exists — extended family, school, , charities, parent groups.
  • Tiny daily resets: a walk outside, a cup of tea sitting down, a few minutes of music.
  • Speak to your if stress is affecting your sleep, mood, or physical health.

Key message

Stress is not weakness. It is information. When the load is too big, the answer is not to push harder — it is to share the load.
